UNM Hospital Garage

The project incorporated 530 Auger Cast Piles, each 18-in in diameter and extending 50 to 70 feet in depth, a pivotal modification from the original large diameter drilled shafts, realized through value engineering in the preconstruction phase.

Overview:

A.H. Beck (AHB), working as a subcontractor to Bradbury Stamm Hunt JV, completed the deep foundations to support the new parking garage to the UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NMThe 530 each deep foundation elements consisted of 18-in diameter by 50 to 70 foot deep Auger Cast PilesAHB worked with the client and engineers to value engineer the approach of converting the project foundations from large diameter drilled shafts to auger cast pile deep foundation elements early in the preconstruction phase of the projectThrough the implementation of this deep foundation method, the cost and schedule were able to be optimized to benefit the project.  AHB coordinated two drilling rigs and completed in the project on scheduleA static compression load test was installed and tested prior to production piles to prove the load carrying capacity of the piles.
